WPV Academy

 

The WPV Academy program enables Water Polo Victoria to support our athletes who are on the development pathway, as well as provide extra training sessions and coaching support for those in State teams who are building towards higher representation. It is open to all athletes over the age of 13+ and takes place at MSAC at 5:30am - 7:00am (days vary per term).

After a process of consultation, in 2025 WPV are seeking to tweak the program to provide extra support for as many athletes as possible along the entire development pathway. In 2025 we will trial splitting into a Tier 1 and Tier 2 system, enabling a re-engagement with our U17 contingent and providing a better progression for all athletes along the pathway. Each Academy Tier will be offered the same time in the pool, follow a similar term-based program and have excellent coaching support. However, the tier split will allow both skill and age to be better matched to create the best environment for all engaging with the WPV Academy. These tiers will be combined gender.

*Tier 1: Invitational to all 2024 U17 VIC State Team participants + opportunity for trials for others to make this tier who are further along the pathway.

Tier 2: Open to all above the age of 13 who have previously been involved in Academy + trials for brand new participants.

* It is important to note that each tier is still a WPV Academy program, and that it is a development pathway by nature. Not making Tier 1, and being placed in Tier 2, will still be extremely beneficial for the athlete's development.

Metrics for trials will be established and communicated at the end of January. Saturday Academy will return in Term 4 2025.

WPV Development Program

​

The Development Program enables Water Polo Victoria to provide younger athletes a space to continue to build their foundational Water Polo skills and develop their understanding of the game from our coaching team. These sessions are for any interested athletes 11-years and older and takes place at MSAC at 5:30am - 7:00am Wednesdays.

 

In 2025 this program will take place in Term 1 & Term 2 only, and is the perfect complement for athletes planning on participating in the U13 Participation Tournament in Hobart. There are no trials for our Development Program.

Regional Academy

​

Water Polo Victoria is excited to continue to deliver the WPV Regional Academy in Albury/Wodonga, and we are seeking Expressions of Interest from our border athletes. This program is a chance to get extra time in the water and improve core Water Polo skills, but also provides the first steps toward being better prepared to follow the Development Pathway in Water Polo.

The program will align with similar goals and expectations as the metro program in order to prepare all Victorian athletes for the National State Championships. This program will take place at Albury pool in Term 2 in weekday afternoons (all details TBC).

  • Coaching Opportunity

    • WPV are always on the lookout for new coaches who wish to work with our young athletes as they move along the Elite Pathway. We are seeking both regular coaches to develop and grow our athletes, but also specialist coaches who would like to come in on a part-time basis to teach our athletes about a particular area of expertise. This could be in areas such as Swimming, Goalkeeping, Strength & Conditioning, Stretching, Nutrition etc.

Term 2 2025 of the Water Polo Victoria Academy will kick off from the 28th of April and we are seeking expressions of interest today! This program enables Water Polo Victoria to support our athletes who are on the elite pathway, as well as provide extra training sessions and coaching support for all athletes as they develop their game.

Pricing

As of January 1, the price for Academy per term will be $375. The price for Development will be $200. The price for Regional Academy will be $150.
