National State Championships - 19's Wrap

Our Victorian U19's Women's and Men's State teams competed in both Melbourne and Perth respectively, between the 8th and 13th of December at WPA's National State Championships. After months of training and preparation, it was a great week for both teams, with many great individual and team performances throughout the competition.

VIC Women

Playing in our home pool of MSAC, our VIC Women's team played some strong Water Polo throughout the tournament. The girls finished in 6th place after 9 matches, winning four games throughout the week. One of the major highlights of the tournament was a tight 11-9 win over NSW Waratahs on day one, the girls showing great spirit and fight to come out victorious in a close encounter.

As well as some great team performances, Jemma Potts was also selected into the 20&U Women National Age Group Program Squad, congratulations Jemma on being selected into the squad!

VIC Men

Our Men's team also had a strong tournament over in Perth, this included an excellent start to the competition with three wins from the first three matches. Our boys continued the strong form and went all the way to the bronze medal match against WA on the final day. Our team fell agonisingly short of winning the medal, charging back from 5 goals down at the start of the 4th quarter, but ultimately finishing in 4th place after an incredibly tight 12-11 loss.

After an amazing tournament for our team, several players were selected into the 20&U Men National Age Group Program Squad. Congratulations to Jonah Allan, Pavle Macic, Daniel Magasanik, Nicholas Mordes, Oliver Purcell and Harrison Teague!

Coaches

Thanks to our coaches, assistant coaches, team managers, staff and volunteers who supported the teams in what is not just a busy week during the tournament, but also for months leading in.

Special thanks to Rowan Bennett, Dean Saltas, Robyn Marshall and Ben Adams for all the work you have done with the squads and teams.

Congratulations to all our VIC players once again.

We look forward to a huge 2024!
